Wedding Ceremony

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Last Sunday I went for a wedding ceremony of my colleague. My colleague is a local Sabahan, Sino, means my colleague is having a blood of Kadazan dan Chinese. This is the first time I attended wedding ceremony of local Sabahan. It is definitely an eye opener for me.

The ceremony held at the afternoon, which is different from some wedding ceremony in KL that held in the evening. The ceremony is held in Dewan Orang Ramai, where the kampung people will gather here if there is any function. When me and my wife entered the hall, we saw a group of people dancing Sumazau, a local Kadazan dance. The dance was accompanied by the traditional music instruments like Gong.

After a few minutes where the dance finished, the other group of people will come out and have a live band. You can see traditional music instrument at one side of the stage and the band is at another side of the stage. This ceremony is definitely the combination of east and west.

The ceremony started at 2pm where the MC will invites the couple and their family up to the stage to have a cake-cutting ceremony. Then, we started to have our buffet style of lunch. The band continue the performance during the lunch and later follow-up by the dancing of Sumazau by the new couple and their family.

Basically, you can see the harmony environment where everyone is so close to each other in the ceremony. They enjoy eating, singing and dancing at the ceremony, which is exactly what the nature native will do. This is definitely a good experience for me.
